Managed network, internet and phone support for Victorian businesses
Kookaburra Comms as your managed service provider: the UniFi network, business internet, 8x8 phones and cabling looked after by the team that installed them.
A managed services agreement with Kookaburra Comms means one Melbourne-based team is responsible for your network, internet and phones after installation: changes, faults, updates, carrier issues and documentation, delivered remotely first and on-site when needed, across every site you run in Victoria and interstate.
Key facts
- Most network, phone and internet changes can be made remotely when a site is documented and runs on a managed platform such as UniFi or 8x8.
- A managed agreement covers the changes, faults and updates that happen between projects, not just the initial installation.
Common use cases
- A Victorian business that wants one provider accountable for network, internet and phones rather than three
- A head office in Melbourne with branches in Geelong, regional Victoria or interstate that should all behave the same way
- A UniFi network, installed by us or by someone else, that nobody is currently looking after
- An 8x8 phone system that needs day-to-day administration: new starters, call flows, after-hours changes
- Business internet across several sites and carriers, with one point of contact for faults and renewals
- A business without an internal IT person that needs someone to call when something stops working
What's included
- Remote monitoring and administration of UniFi networks: firmware, configuration, VLANs, SSIDs, users, cameras and door access
- 8x8 administration: users, licences, call flows, IVR menus and reporting
- Internet fault management, carrier liaison, failover checks and renewal management
- On-site attendance for physical faults and cabling
- Network documentation kept current and handed over on request
What managed support actually covers
The communications layer of a business has four parts that fail in different ways. The network — gateway, switching, Wi-Fi, and on a UniFi site the cameras and door access as well — generates most of the day-to-day requests: a new starter, a new SSID, a VLAN for a new device type, a firmware update that should be tested before it is pushed. The internet services generate faults that need someone to sit on the phone to a carrier, plus the renewals and failover checks that nobody remembers until the day they matter. The 8x8 phone or contact centre platform generates user, licence and call-flow changes on a weekly rhythm. And the cabling underneath generates the occasional physical fault that no amount of remote access can fix.
A managed agreement makes one team responsible for all four, so the question of who owns a problem never has to be asked.
Remote first, on-site when it matters
UniFi and 8x8 are cloud-managed platforms, which changes what support looks like. A configuration change, a new user, a firmware update, a fault diagnosis — all of that happens from Melbourne without anyone travelling. The diagnosis is the important part: remote access is what tells us whether a problem is a setting, a carrier, or a piece of hardware, and therefore whether a visit is needed at all.
When it is — a failed switch, a cable that needs replacing, a camera that needs re-siting, a new cable run for a new desk — the same team that installed the site attends. There is no hand-off to a separate trade who has never seen the comms room.
Victorian businesses with sites in other states
A Melbourne head office with a branch in Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide has a consistency problem, not a distance problem. When each site is built by whoever was available locally at the time, they diverge: different hardware, different network names, different addressing, different documentation, different people to call. Every change then has to be worked out twice.
Building and supporting the sites the same way removes that. Hardware for an interstate site is configured and pre-staged in Melbourne, shipped, and adopted into the same UniFi console and the same 8x8 tenant as the Victorian sites. From then on it is managed exactly as the head office is — one console, one documentation set, one team — with any on-site work scheduled as a project. For a Victorian business, that is usually cheaper and more reliable than a separate provider in each state.
One provider for the whole communications layer
The most common support failure is not a technical one. It is a phone system provider blaming the internet, the internet provider blaming the network, and the network provider pointing back at the phones, while the business waits. Each is often right about the other, and none is responsible for the outcome.
Because Kookaburra Comms delivers and supports all of it — and the cabling too — that loop does not exist. A dropped-call complaint is investigated across the phone platform, the internet service and the switching by the same people, and fixed wherever the cause actually is.
Where the agreement stops
Every agreement is written down before it starts: which sites, which platforms, what is covered and what is not, so there is never a question about who owns a problem when one happens. Where a business also has an IT provider or internal IT looking after desktops, servers and line-of-business software, the boundary between their responsibility and ours is set out in the same document rather than discovered during a fault.
Taking on an existing site
Most managed clients began with an installation, but an existing site can be taken on. The first piece of work is always the same: a review of what is actually there and a documentation pass, so that the network, the internet services and the phone platform are written down as they are rather than as someone remembers them. Comms room cleanup and network documentation describes what that produces.
Only after that is the site supported under the agreement. Taking responsibility for an undocumented network is how support providers end up rediscovering the site on every call, and it is the thing the review is designed to prevent.
Why Kookaburra Comms

- Ubiquiti partner, 8x8 partner and Aussie Broadband Certified MSP Partner
- ACMA registered cabler on the same team, so a physical fault does not need a second trade
- Melbourne-based, with remote support for your Victorian and interstate sites
Frequently asked questions
- Do you only manage networks that you installed?
- No. We take on existing UniFi and 8x8 environments after an initial review and documentation pass, so we know what is there before we are responsible for it. Sites running other platforms are assessed case by case.
- How do you support sites outside Melbourne under a managed agreement?
- Remotely first. UniFi and 8x8 are cloud-managed, so most changes and diagnosis happen from Melbourne regardless of where the site is. For Geelong, regional Victoria and interstate sites, on-site work is scheduled as a project, and hardware can be configured here and shipped.
- Can we start with the installation and add managed support later?
- Yes. Most managed clients started with a project. Taking on support at handover is simpler because the documentation is fresh, but it is not a condition.
- What do you need from us to take on an existing site?
- Access to the UniFi console and 8x8 admin, the carrier account details for the internet services, any existing documentation, and a walk-through of the comms room. Where documentation does not exist we create it as the first piece of work.
